After a strong performance on the queen stage on day four, Frederik Wandahl defended his top-ten position in the Croatian tour during the final two stages. In the end, the Dane secured ninth place.

With his latest showing in Croatia, Wandahl continues to build on his strong summer form. After taking third in the Danish National Road Race Championships, he finished fifth at the Tour de Wallonie. He also put in solid performances at the Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec (16th place) and the World Championship road race (22nd place). “I already knew before the start of the Cro Race that my form was good – and the plan was to aim for the general classification,” says the 23-year-old. He had quietly hoped for an even better result: “I had really strong legs on the mountain stage. Unfortunately, the stage wasn’t selective enough to create gaps. In the end, the race turned into a sprint for seconds,” says Wandahl.

Shane Archbold, the Sports Director in charge in Croatia, was also satisfied with Wandahl’s performance: “Given his recent form, Frederik was as our GC rider from the start. In the end, however, the race wasn’t tough enough, and he couldn’t secure any bonus seconds – otherwise, he could have finished even higher”, he summarizes. Wandahl will have another opportunity to display his strong autumn form on October 10, when he lines up for Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe at the Italian semi-classic Gran Piemonte.
