After claiming the bronze medal in the individual time trial, the German rider from GRENKE - Auto Eder secured a silver medal in the mixed relay. Fietzke and his teammates are now heading to the World Cycling Championships with momentum on their side.

A silver and a bronze medal – the European Cycling Championships held last week in Belgium’s Limburg province were a successful outing for Germany’s Paul Fietzke. After securing bronze in the individual time trial, the 18-year-old also claimed another medal in the mixed relay. Together with the German team, Fietzke finished second, narrowly beaten by the Dutch squad and ahead of Norway.

Lorenzo Finn, another rider from GRENKE - Auto Eder, had a strong showing at the European Championships, too. After taking seventh in the individual time trial, the 17-year-old finished fifth in the mixed relay with the Italian team. The U19 athletes from Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe will now carry this momentum into the upcoming World Championships, set to begin next Monday in Zurich, Switzerland.

“I’m super proud of the third place in the time trial, especially since I had to recover from a crash shortly before. The Mixed Relay event was great fun, and we can be very happy with second place. Unfortunately, the result in the road race didn’t come through. Our tactic didn’t work out 100% as I didn’t have the legs to stay with the group at the decisive moment. Overall, the European Championships were a successful week, and I can head home feeling good and focus on preparing for the World Championships.” – Paul Fietzke

“The individual time trial, with Paul taking third and Lorenzo seventh, was already a great start. The silver medal and fifth place in the Mixed Relay were equally strong results. We could have done more in the road race, but our riders lacked a bit of luck tactically. All in all, it was a very successful European Championship. Our riders are fully on track for the World Championships in Zurich, which is our main goal this season.” – Dr Christian Schrot, Sports Director, GRENKE - Auto Eder
